From PyroGuide
I propose that we add to every chemical its S-phrases (safety phrases) and R-phrases (risk phrases) if there are any linked to it. They all come from the same 'law' as the Hazard Symbols. I volunteer to make an index and add them to every chemical possible. /djdoru
That would probably be a good idea. At the moment I do not have much time to edit, but try creating an example of a page with S-/R-phrases so we can agree on a proper listing before editing all chemical-pages :) /Pudi
OK. So after some hard work (for a beginner editor), I've finished the S- & R-phrases page. Hope you guys like it. It would really be a good idea to implement these for every chemical (where possible) since safety is a major component in pyrotechnics (for me, it's the most important). I also suggest 2 other things. First, creating a Safety section (in the main categories, along with Tutorials, Techniques, etc.). Second, adding at the top of the Chemicals page (the one with the list of chemicals) the small 'label' (Template:Dangerous chemicals) I added to the Hazard Symbols article and to the newly created R-phrases and S-phrases. /djdoru
I must admit that I don´t like the R&S-Phrases thing. While it is reasonable to label ones chemicals with hazard symbols that is not the case with R&S, cause no one works with the R&S-translation-table in his hands. It simply don´t consider it practically relevant, even if regulated by law. It´s a good idea to create a safety section, but I don´t like the template of djdoru, sorry. (Admiral)
The main question was if we should add S- R-phrases to the chemicals that we have in the Pyroguide database. If people want to add them to their own storing labels or not is a question of personal decision. The template can be modified - I just want people to be aware that properly labelling their chemicals may, at extreme, save lives (and money)./dj
Having owned and run and chemical supply company before in the past, I am very up to speed on the law and how things should be labelled and described. I have all the information to hand, so I will find it very easy to regurgitate the material. I have 4 weeks left on a research project (mid-Nov), over the second Half of December I will update the chemical section to an informative and uniform section.
Well done to everyone that has contributed so far. Who changed it to all IUPAC nomenclature? Well done you. This was an important step towards gaining credibility and deterring "kewl bommerz" culture.
Admiral, you have a very valid point, to that end R&S codes are prohibited from appearing solely on retail containers of hazardous products. In the UK, all retail chemicals must come with full risk and safety labels. The table is a good point reference though, it gives information should anyone have a bunch of codes and does not know wtf they mean, thus it should stay as it is.
Later in December I will update everything.[andrew]
We need to have a CuNO3 section ---thermiteisfun
Does anyone know what has happened to the page on dextrin? My browser (Safari) loads it blank. It hasn't been working for about 7 months. I have tried other browsers without success. --Belgarion 16:29, 12 January 2010 (EST)
